WHAT IS ACNE?
Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is the most common skin disorder in the United States. Treatments target the four factors responsible for lesion formation: increased sebum production, hyperkeratinization, colonization by Propionibacterium acnes, and the resultant inflammatory reaction. Treatment goals include scar prevention, reduction of psychological morbidity, and resolution of lesions. Grading acne based on lesion type and severity can help to best select treatment.
ACNE TYPE I
Noninflammatory acne lesions consisting of open and closed comedones (blackheads).
ACNE TYPE II
Mild inflammatory acne lesions with comedones(blackheads) and few papules (red pimple without pus), usually very painful to the touch, DO NOT try to pick at it because its not ready to come out, you will be spreading the infection underneath your skin and pustules (pimples with pus).
ACNE TYPE III
Moderate inflammatory acne lesions with comedones, several papules and pustules, and few nodules.
ACNE TYPE IV
